Charlotte Revival Display Cabinet

This simple but elegant cabinet was a re-creation of a loved piece of furniture that the client had in her previous home in Charlotte. In the center is the television, surrounded by art glass, books, and storage for special items.

The look of the piece is clean and contemporary and the finish is “Designer White” lacquer in a satin sheen. The cabinet measures 7’ wide and 8’ tall.

Located on a very narrow street and up a tight staircase, this large cabinet broke down into pieces that could be delivered in one truck and then recombined inside the room as a seamless-looking unit.

These are some shots of an installation in progress (in April), of a large built-in buffet and bookcase in a historic home in Philadelphia. The buffet (in the top two photos) which recessed into an existing alcove, had integral lighting and a Carrara marble top with an ogee profile. The large wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling bookshelf (lower shots) had integral vents for the home’s ductwork, fluted columns, raised panels, and solid, beefy shelves (not shown). The units were painted in place.

These two matching natural maple bookshelf built-ins are finally in place in a Maryland home. The smaller piece is ho me to the computer printer, and the larger one houses a sizable television. This project was in the design phase for a long time, since the homeowners wanted to be sure that they were getting a product that suited their needs and home perfectly. The result is a classic and clean-lined balance between modern and traditional look. Wiring is all neatly hidden and the components are tucked away behind antique wavy glass.

Ready to Go

The lacquered Maple Bookcase and Entertainment Unit built-ins are just about complete and ready to go to their new home in Maryland. The homeowners chose solid brass knobs and bin pulls in antique nickel from Lee Valley. These pieces promise to make a dramatic upgrade to the room they will grace.

Meanwhile, two built-ins are being created for a home in Philadelphia. They will be delivered next week and painted on site.

White Oak Entry Door

IMG_6204 IMG_6205

IMG_0621 Once in a while an entry door needs to be replaced. This old Thousand Islands-area home was due for one, and now sports a brand-new solid white oak entry door. Three lights of antique glass in the top provide a view of the stone fences out front while the lake beckons, beyond. The bottom rail is of the door is 12 1/2 inches tall and the panels are bookmatched. Coats of polyurethane protect the door from the weather and allow the homeowners to put on a new coat of finish if needed after several years. This substantial, heavy door is in for a long life with a view of the water.

Bath vanity

This pair of nightstands, dresser, and bathroom vanity all look great in a new master suite. The matching walnut wood, modern lines, splayed legs, and chrome art deco hardware work well with the silver fabric-covered headboard and blue walls. In this case, the client found a furniture elsewhere online and wanted a whole suite of furniture custom made to fit this room. The effect is a serene and luxurious escape. There is also a matching wooden panel on the jacuzzi tub (not pictured) on the wall opposite the double vessel vanity with storage tower. The glass tile work  was beautiful throughout the bathroom and into the large shower. Additionally, there was a dressing vanity built for this bedroom set, designed after the below photo that the client provided.

Drawing for Bedroom Built-In

Excerpt from the bid:

The wall farthest from the door would become floor to ceiling storage. The bed could go on either of the longer walls. There will be twelve large drawers below (each about 2’ wide and 1’ tall), and seven doors above, concealing adjustable shelves. Drawers and doors would feature a decorative molding. The drawer slides would be full-extension stainless steel ball-bearing slides. The unit would be 22” deep (open to the logs in the back) with a 3” return on the right hand side to allow space for the baseboard heater and the curtain rod above. The base would have decorative feet in front of a recessed toe kick. Between the drawers and door there will be a wide detailed molding, and at the top of the piece there will be a large soffit and a country-style crown molding. The woodwork could be stained to the color of your choice- (the homeowner had mentioned Rosewood), and clear-coated with catalytic lacquer in your choice of sheen. The job would take about a month to complete. Our terms are 10% to hold your spot, 40% to build, and 50% upon installation. There is no sale tax on this piece because it is built-in.
